The valley is only a 15-minute ride from the city centre via a car or taxi. One of the sightseeing areas in this attraction is the Margareta Church that was built in 1250. Although only ruins of the church exist today, people flock every year to the valley to witness the historical play Maridalsspillet being performed here.
Another place worth visiting here is the Maridalen Church at the northern shore of the lake. Maridalen is the entry point to much of Oslo’s forests, with many trails for hiking, cycling, and skiing spread throughout the area. Birdwatching is also popular here because of common woodland species abundant here like the Three-toed Woodpecker, Tengmalm’s Owl, and Capercaillie.
